Do Exterminators really help for pest control?

I'm having a mouse problem in my house and am to the point to call an exterminator. Do they really help take care of the situation? Don't want to be wasting my money if I can help it.

Any suggestions I would appreciate!Do Exterminators really help for pest control?
Yes, they can help, but as with any contractor, you have to put some effort into choosing someone who has the right skills to solve your problem (see the bottom link). But even a good exterminator isn鈥檛 a miracle worker. Critters are tricky. A mouse only needs a 1/4 inch hole to squeeze into your house, and squirrels can jump up to 12 through the air in order to reach your roof. Here鈥檚 a guide to eradicating various pests:

If the problem is severe, go with an exterminator. But if it鈥檚 not so bad maybe you can take a crack at it yourself and save some money. Here鈥檚 a list of various types of traps and eradication methods:

Whatever you do, don鈥檛 wait any longer to tackle the problem---when they鈥檙e not eating or foraging, mice make busy doing other things, such as making more mice!Do Exterminators really help for pest control?
Whatever you do, do NOT use sticky traps!!! They get stuck and then just scream and it isn't pleasant when they start trying to chew their legs off to get off the tape. It is the most inhumane thing in the world.

I'd call an exterminator and tell him/her NOT to put out any sticky traps..My exterminator comes once a month. I no longer have problems with rodents, flies, mosquitoes or other bugs..

I also have some geckos that are wonderful in eating bugs!
