Most decent apartment complexes have pest control services. Mine does, but you have to make a request for it in writing (they give us forms to fill out and hand to the leasing manager). You may have to request the service in writing (like a maintenance request), but they should spray if you report ants or any other kind of pest or vermin.
I discovered a VERY effective ant deterrent almost by accident last summer. During a VERY dry spell, ants were showing up in record numbers. I started spraying Clorox Clean-Up on them AND their trails, and I swear the stuff disintegrates them in seconds. It also wipes out their trails. You just need to be careful, because it contains bleach and WILL spot non-colorsafe fabric. Is My Landlord in Charge of Pest Control?
They have to make an effort, but since the problem is that you are providing ant food there is nothing the landlord can do. You are the one choosing to feed them.
Remove the food dish after your cat eats.
As it is an apartment, I would say yes. Bugs can be attracted by neighboring apartments and find their way into your clean one.
A good, non- toxic way to keep the ants out is to follow their trail to where they are coming in and put enough ground cinnamon down that they can't go around it. Ants won't cross cinnamon. Then spray the rest of the ants with Windex and wipe up the trail.
Good luck!
The best way to find out is to read your lease. Check to see if the landlord is responsible for pet control. As stated before, most decent placed do inlclude pest control, however, some places do not! So it is imparative you reread your lease. My guess is that your apartment complex would do some kind of pest control. Just call them and ask them to send an exterminator because despite all your efforts, the creepy crawlies remain. If pest control is included, I bet they will send someone out! ;) This is the time of year when the pests start to come out!
Good Luck!
