All grocery stores, hardware stores and the big box stores carry a product called ';wasp %26amp; hornet spray';. A couple of cans of it will take out just about any wasp or hornets nest. They shoot a thin stream of foam like insecticide that expands when it hits the nest and kills them on contact. You can stand back ten or fifteen feet from the nest to do the spraying. Do it at night and you are almost guaranteed to kill them all the first time. Some may fall off the nest and hit the ground and crawl around for a while but eventually they will die.How do I get rid of a Hornets nest?Without calling a pest control person.?
I used a product called Bonide termite and carpenter ant dust with deltamethrin. Delta dust is another product.
First, wait until dark when the hornets are inactive and in the nest. Still, wear protective clothing and a beekeepers veil for your safety.
Spray the dust into the hole(s) at the bottom of the nest. Slip a plastic trash bag with drawstrings around the nest, tie tightly. You can leave the bag there or you can snip the nest from the eaves of the house. For safety, put a few twist ties around the neck of the bag. Dispose into a trash can, cover, and leave cover in place for several days after you have sprayed it generously with insecticide. Please check for live hornets the night before the trash man cometh.
I'm not sure about hornets' nest, but my brother used dishwashing liquid and water in a bucket for wasps' nest. It killed the wasps on contact. You could give it a try. Just make sure you get out of the way, just in case it doesn't work.
